Question by Candy S: how can I add sales tax to a price so I can tell the exact amount..? (california)?
I was looking at some clothes online at pacsun.com and I am going there tomorrow to buy them (I’m not a fan of online ordering..lol). but I wanted to know the exact total it will come out to. is there a website or a trick on a calculator or something?

CA sales taxes vary somewhat since there is an optional local component. The max rate is 9.75% and does apply in much of the state. If you allow 10%, you’ll be more than safe.

Do I have pay sales tax to California when purchasing an out of state car? 5

Question by fatturbos: Do I have pay sales tax to California when purchasing an out of state car?
I can’t seem to find a clean cut answer. I’m looking at a car from out of state and I am I live in California. I found this:

https://mv.dmv.ca.gov/FeeCalculatorWeb/index.jsp

on the DMV’s website, they have a calculator for vehicles registered outside of California, making the presumption that is what I am looking for, after I fill in all the information it says it would only cost $ 150 to register it here in California.

Total Use/Sales Tax (includes credit paid to another state): $ 0.00

Whats the tax credit it speaks of?

I read something about a sales/use tax, but in every explanation it rattled off into an example that had nothing to do with what I need to know. So basically my question is this. If I buy a car out of state, in California, will I not only have to pay that states tax to that state, but sales tax to California as well?

Thanks!

Question by confusedaboutlife: how do you calculate sales tax on a calculator?
i think california’s sales tax is 9.25? and i want to buy a purse for 690.00

Convert the sales tax percentage into a decimal (i.e. divide by 100), then add it to 1. Then multiply that number by the purchase amount. Thus, ($ 690)(1.0925) = $ 753.83.
